Piping Plover mating is beautiful, hilarious, sweet, and bizarre. It all begs the question: Who comes up with this stuff? Shorely, it wasn’t the PIPL themselves. Or was it?
That’s a mighty big question, and one of many the beauty of the Shore inevitably forces us to ask ourselves. Why is it so insanely gorgeous? How is this all so perfect? Where should I get Ice Cream tonight? We can suppose we’ll always be continually seeking those answers (except the Ice Cream one, I vote The Big Dipper in Surf City, no contest).
One thing we can be sure of though is that Piping Plover were made for beach. They, and all the Beach Nesting Birds, are the tiny little heartbeats that bring the beach to life, and fulfill the purpose of this magnificent habitat. Someone or something, intentionally or perhaps accidentally, designed them perfectly for the beach, and the beach perfectly for them. I like to think I can’t live live without the Beach, yet shorely I can. The Piping Plover take things to a whole new level: they literally can not live without the Beach. We live at the Beach. They live on it.
There is a whole lot of fascination, giggles, and beauty in the tiny details of the itty-bitty mating ritual of the Piping Plover. But the “why” of it all? It’s truly astonishing.
