Ye Olde Colonial Tern Towne: The Itty Bitty City On The Outskirts of Skimmer Nation

While the un-ignorable beach toucans, The Black Skimmers, are the obvious main headline act at Skimmer Nation, if you look closely in the dune you see several side stages with smaller acts.
While the un-ignorable beach toucans, The Black Skimmers, are the obvious main headline act at Skimmer Nation, if you look closely in the dune you’ll see several side stages with smaller attractions. Particularly of interest is Ye Olde Colonial Tern Towne; A massive colony of Least Tern on the outskirts of Skimmer Nation.
"Good 'morrow! What cheer?"
“Good ‘morrow! What cheer? How does thee fare?”
Least Tern are beach nesting birds that also breed in large colonies. With the statistical safety probabilities guaranteed by numbers, it only make sense for the Least Tern & Black Skimmers to team up. Or, as The Leasties describe it, ". . . the fulfillment of our manifest destiny [is] to overspread the continent allotted by Providence for the free development of our yearly multiplying millions."
Least Tern are beach nesting birds that also breed in large colonies. With the statistical safety probabilities guaranteed by numbers, it shows great prudence and very little ignominy for the Least Tern & Black Skimmers to team up. Or, as The Leasties describe it, “. . . through cooperation, the fulfillment of our manifest destiny [is] to overspread the continent allotted by Providence for the free development of our yearly multiplying millions.” They also told us “a single Twigge breaketh but the bundle of Twigges is strong.”
"Pray pardon me... duz u have any fish pottage?" Sheesh, even the little ones don't break character in Ye Olde Colonial Tern Towne.
“Pray pardon me… duz u have any fishes pottage?” Sheesh, these little Terns talk funny. Like little Pilgrims or something.
Fat little Least Tern babies run amok through the dune, waddling around and waiting for their parents to bring them fresh fish from the sea
Fat little Least Tern Chicks run amok all throughout the Colony, waddling around waiting for their parents to bring them fresh fish from the sea.
With so many Terns & Skimmers flying around, the chicks waddle and wave their itty bitty wings, trying to get the attention of every adult that returns with a fish. As they say often in Ye Olds Colonial Tern Towne, "He that waits upon fortune, is never sure of a dinner."

The parents will deliver fish to the chicks, but won't spoon feed them, rewarding the most ambitious. I overheard this parent telling this newborn, "Dependence begets subservience and venality, suffocates the germ of virtue, and prepares fit tools for the designs of ambition."
The parents will deliver fish to the chicks, but won’t spoon feed them, instead rewarding the most ambitious. I overheard this parent telling this newborn, “Dependence begets subservience and venality, suffocates the germ of virtue, and prepares fit tools for the designs of ambition.” C’mon mom. Don’t you think that’s a little much for that itty-bitty to swallow? (Not the fish, the Colonial Wisdom)
Whenever a youth is ascertained to possess talents meriting an education which his parents cannot afford, he should be carried forward at the public expense.
But they do what they can to not let anyone starve. “Whenever a youth is ascertained to possess talents meriting an education which his parents cannot afford, he should be carried forward at the public expense.”
Itty bitties. "A bore is someone who takes away my solitude and doesn't give me companionship in return."
Itty bitties. “A bore is someone who takes away my solitude and doesn’t give me companionship in return.” Bonus Fact: Pairs of Least Tern Chicks are often two different colors, one slightly yellow and one more gray. This adds to the camo effect that protects them on the open beach.
And when to Great Feat has ended, the itty-bitties run back to the dune to find a shady spot to loaf.

"Only the most acute and active animals are capable of boredom. - A theme for a great poet would be God's boredom on the seventh day of creation."
“Only the most acute and active animals are capable of boredom. – A theme for a great poet would be God’s boredom on the seventh day of creation.” Well said, little one!  Well said.
"Pray remember me!111!!!"
“Pray remember me!111!!!” Colonial for “Goodbye.”
