For whatever reason, be it clever strategy or supreme negligence, Tufters took his three itty-bitties to the dark edge of their world: the sea, at sunset. Leaving behind the relative safety of their shallow tide pool, the three caught their first glimpse of the dark world of the front beach. The violent waves of an extreme high tide rumbled over the sound of vicious and sinister Black Back Gulls fighting each other mercilessly for every scrap of scavenge-able grub on the beach. The babies were clearly out of place in a bad part of town.
The opportunities for epic shots of extreme baby-danger were everywhere. But alas, I just couldn’t bring myself to add one more variable to the chaos, so I laid down my camera in the sand and watched and flinched at scene so dicey & stressful, sleep did not come easy later that night. The photo below is the only one I managed to pull off before surrendering. It is the brave Coppelia following Tufter’s lead and working the berm with great stealth.
