Yes, beach chicken eating chicken seems highly... wrong. But gulls are merciless scavengers and not shy at all about even the mostest taboo: cannibalism. Under the right circumstances (lack of Cheezitz (TM)) a gull will happily consume even beach chicken.

On the subject, here is a great, quick video about Gull territoriality in which you can learn to speak “Seagullease” (and get tricked into watching Gulls cannibalize so you’ll belive me) . It’s the Rosetta Stone of cackling. The video is at a nesting colony, but Herring Gulls behave exactly the same way and use the same vocalizations right next to your chair all Summer to defend feeding space, and carve out zones to raise their ‘lil CheezItz.
