Late August is that special time of year. If you’re lucky enough to catch a Mamu 5, be prepared for a little whine with your glass of wine. That’s right, this is the time that the gulls start bringing their juveniles to the beach for the first time to teach them the Art of the Scavenge. Close your eyes, open your ears, and you are bound to hear the sweetly annoying sound of ‘lil Cheezitz crying, begging for some vomit. (See the Last Camp in North Beach Video for a taste)
This season’s undisputed King of Annoying Kids is our own Big Poppa. Big Poppa and his two babies have clearly taken over our beach as their training ground. No offense to Mac Daddy, but Big Poppa is a far better father. While Mac Daddy was constantly dumping his Cheezitz at our Camp for cheap babysitting, Big Poppa positions his little ones on Jetties and Sandbars and actually encourages them to hunt a little on their own. But they’re young and suck at hunting, so he serves up plenty of delicious vomit.
Keep your ears open for young juvies on the beach. Once you get past the annoyance factor, they’re sure to entertain.
