The Readings Have Arrived

All of our friends make the news
All of our friends make the news

Remember the post that asked for Reader favorites after a certain high brow publication requested some representative photos? Well, RFTN has arrived. A hard cutting, in depth retrospective of our unique blend of amateur photography, made up science, and nonsense hits newsstands across the Island today. That’s right folks. Our beloved Sandpaper covered the Readings this week.

Thanks to everyone who voted. I collected and submitted the votes, and they cherry picked. Everyone should be pleased to see the Osprey, Tufters, Whale, & Mac Daddy made the cut. While Dolphin Penis did not make the cut, they had enough journalistic integrity to mention it and link to some in the online version of the article.

The article was penned by Jon Coen, and I agreed to do the interview solely for the chance to meet Jon, who writes the Liquid Lines surf column that I basically live to read each Wednesday. I believe the original article was supposed to be about the Pelicam filming surfers at the Pipe. But if we were going to get some ink, it was mission-critical to get the focus back on the wildlife and the Conserve Wildlife Foundation of NJ. Fortunately Jon shares RFTN’s dual passions for surf & wildlife so barely any persuasive tactics or Jedi Mind Tricks were required.

Please visit the article online as many times as possible. In the web biz, its all about clicks and eyeballs, baby. Excessive visits to the online article support the Sandpaper. Click & click again.

We’ll be seeing lots of new Readers visit the site this week, many walking away in confusion. Some of you old timers will have to start throwing an extra sentence into your comments to prove your authority… stuff like “I’ve been reading the Readings my whole life, and that’s a great blood spattered Osprey photo!” or just simply “I’ve been coming here my whole life.”
