There is a rhythm to the morning wildlife on LBI. Peaks. valleys, stops, jams, and huge crescendos. Sometimes you can sit in silence for what seems like forever, then slowly the creatures appear, at first one by one, and then in groups, building towards a massive climax where I just put down the camera, heart pounding, unable to choose where to focus.
Today was the first such morning in quite some time. It’s as if someone forgot to throw the marine life switch in July, then caught the mistake August 1st. The sea is alive this morning. Pelican, Osprey, Dolphin, Cocktail Blues… all in great numbers. The Dolphin are the happiest, most playful we’ve seen them in a while leaping, surfing, and interacting with just about everything they stumble upon.
Get out there and love it.
