Happy, or should I say “Sad”, Changeover Day. Hints of despair are everywhere this morning as we witness more than just the weekly renters changing over: the season is changing over too. Decline is everywhere. Everything from temperatures, Tern, Dolphin sightings, Oystercatchers, sunshine, and daylight are showing signs of decline. Today’s Northeast, cool temps, and cloudy skies have September in their DNA: and I’m not talking about the “I love September, it is my favorite month down here” that you hear everyone say (even folks who have never been here in September)… I’m talking about the miserable, totally shutout windy & rainy days of September that make you wish it was still July. The real September.
So wake up people, because here we go. We’re all but guaranteed to have some amazing last gasps of Summer in the weeks ahead; maybe even some of the best days of the season. Make sure you suck the life out of every last moment of Summer 2012. And I don’t just mean lick the bones clean; I mean swallow the whole darn thing whole like Mac Daddy with your Sandwich.
On the plus side, the later afternoon low tide + the recent new moon might make for some interesting shelling today. If the rains hold off, a nice afternoon walk might be the right thing to do. We also have swell forecast coming in for Early next week with an early read of 4 footers + West Wind on Tuesday. We won’t know if that will hold until this cold front pushes through a bit more, but fingers are crossed.
