The ocean went dead for the past 24 hours, creating a surreal scene that can only be described as Lake Atlantic. Ultra-light winds and zero swell turned the ocean into a peaceful paradise that was so beautiful, I did’t even care that there was not a wave in sight. It was heaven for Stand Up Paddleboarders, but the wildlife was sparse with just a few active Dolphin at the sunrise and light Pelican & Osprey action.
With a light West in the AM and an East in the afternoon, the flies were always a threat but stayed just out of the annoyance zone. We started the day with the murkier, upwelled water we’ve been dealing with but quickly turned ultra clear and blue with just a little East Wind. You might not have noticed, but the deeper water was thick with soft little jellyfish. This is the largest, and really only, bloom I’ve sen this season. S basically we got flies AND jellies today, but in manageable numbers and in a nice mix. I’ll take it.
The swell forecast is completely flatlined for the near future. Our greatest hope, Tropical Storm Gordon, has foiled us by heading backwards towards Africa.
